Dominance

Months have passed

It was late, there was a heavy rain pouring down and the Whiskers were all tucked into the burrow, nice and warm... but not sleeping peacefully. They were all disturbed as a lone female enter the burrow, shaking the wetness form her fur

"Anything?!"

A large male, Argon, stood on his feet, looking at the female with hope. But with her silence and shaking head he slowly sat down with a look filled with sorrow.

"She was still filled with grief for Petal's death, Argon.... its not your fault..."

"Yes it is!" he cries out "I was on sentry! I didn't call loud enough! Its my fault Holly's dead!" his head drops, he couldn't bare to look at anyone. Not now.

A young juvenile, Flower, slowly came down one of the tunnels. She had just tucked Holly's last pups in for the night. And had come to see what the commotion was about. But seeing her father, she quickly went over to comfort him.

Another female was also watching them. She steps forward, ignoring Argon's state "its obvious now... Holly won't be back... witch leaves us to decide the new dominant female to take her place... Rica?" she looks over at the female that say by the burrow entrance, who was drying her fur. She looks up.

"I guess your right Vialli..." she sighs, burring her claws in the dirt. Thinking. How many dominance fights and evictions would happen. It was now Flower spoke

"Why not Risca? She�s always been like the second dominant female... " She noticed a slight glare for Vanilla, telling her to old her tongue. But then a third voice spoke "I think Risca is a good choice..." the all looked over to see who it was.

It was Zola, one of Holly's eldest daughters. "Risca is the eldest female here and more experienced. I think she would be a wise choice, and there will be no dominance fights..."

There was a long pause. Risca, got to her feet and started walking down one of the tunnels "we'll see..." she replied. Before continuing on her way.

But the next few days, Risca did go unchallenged by the other females. She finally accepted her roll as the new dominant, and soon was fitted a necklace like the one Holly had. As time passed everyone got comfortable with this. Aragon was on sentry more often. He always blamed himself for what had happen to Holly, and was now more silent, more watchful.

A few weeks later, the whiskers were out foraging. It was a beautiful day and everyone was in high spirits. Thumper and Hazel were busy play fighting. Flower joined them briefly but them went back to foraging, trying to find food for her little brother and sister, Smithers and Mr. Burns.

But food was scare here. Ever since the last battle with a group called the Lazuli Flower and her family had been forced form the home she was born in, the one she was meant to grow up in! But thinking back on that day, she had never been so scared... she rememberd being behind he older cousin Lancelot, watching him fend of what seemed like hundreds of Lazuli's. It seemed to go on forever until Holly returned with the group. She remebers seeing her father burst down the tunnels into battle... Holly had ordered a burrow move to protect her pups. But this land was nowhere close to being the wondrous place she was born...

"Who is that?!"

Flower was jerked form her thoughts as Smithers blurted the question. Flower raised her head to look. She blinks.

Two females were approaching the group. And they had caught the eye of everyone now. The air around them was tense. But both were threats and were heading to Risca

"Its Artemis and Aphrodite..." Flower said as last "Holly.... evicted them before she..." she didn't finish her sentence.

Risca looked at the two, curiously "Artemis... Aphrodite... what are you doing here...?"

Artemis lays on her stomach as Aphrodite crouches in submission "we herd about Holly... and... We want to come back..."

Risca glares at them both "Just because Holly is gone, you think you can come back...?"

Artemis shrinks back a little. Her hope dieing, Aphrodite spoke next "Please, it�s been weeks! Holly might have let us back by now; we just want another chance... Risca?!"

Risca growls "Might have let you back?! After what YOU did?! You both-"

"Maybe they have learned their lesson..."

There was a pause at the three females looked over to see Vialli approaching them "After so long fending for themselves, I don't think they would dare do what they did before, hmmm...?"

"N-Not at all!" Artemis replied, shaken

Risca glares at Vialli. Then at Artemis and Aphrodite. She was quiet for the longest time "Fine..." she growled softly "but if I catch anything coming from either of you, you know what to expect!" she quickly walks off to forage. Her fur defiantly ruffled. Artemis and Aphrodite looked at each other, hope sparkling. They both gave a glance of thanks to Vailli, before joining the group to forage. Vailli smiles back, but as she turned away form everyone that smiled turned into a cat like grin...
